2012 Quality in Construction for Herlong Recreational Airport
Lanham, Md. —The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) announced today that Duval Asphalt Products Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla., has won a 2012 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement. The company received its award on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at a ceremony during the association’s 58th Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Quality in Construction Award recognizes asphalt pavements of excellence. “The Quality in Construction Award recognizes paving jobs completed in line with best practices and standards known to yield high-quality asphalt pavements,” stated Kurt Bechthold, 2012 Chairman of the NAPA Board of Directors. “This award demonstrates the high quality of work Duval Asphalt Products Inc. is achieving.”
Duval Asphalt Products Inc. won the award for the rehabilitation of the northeast apron and taxi lane at Herlong Recreational Airport near Jacksonville. The project required the application of a geotextile fabric in small areas where the old concrete tie-downs were cut below grade. Duval Asphalt Products paved the project in two lifts, with the top lift incorporating a new fuel-resistant binder and low air voids to resist penetration of fuels and other liquids into the pavement. This was the first use of the fuel-resistant binder in Florida.
